How it works

From a roadmap full of maybes to one that ships.

Four steps, from naming the remit to a signed contract. Opening the role and reading who applies cost nothing on the Base plan.

  • 01 Post

    Post a role

    • Which surface they own, who they report to, and how much of the roadmap is theirs to change
    • Mira AI turns that into a scorecard about decisions rather than a list of ceremonies
    • Product salary band checked against live payroll data before the role opens
  • 02 Screen

    Screen with AI

    • Weighted toward products that reached users and the calls made along the way
    • Every position in the order comes with the reasoning written out
    • Referrals and agency submissions land in the same ranked list
  • 03 Interview

    Run interviews

    • Launched products, case studies and writing samples attached to the profile
    • Book a product critique or a prioritisation exercise in a click
    • Panel notes, recordings and scores stay attached to the role
  • 04 Decide

    Decide together

    • Wisemonk signs the employment contract as legal employer in India
    • Payroll, provident fund, gratuity and tax withholding run every month
    • Equipment, onboarding and tool access arranged before their first standup
Meet Mira AI

It reads the work, not the CV.

Mira AI reads every Product Management application through the work that actually shipped: what the person owned, the constraints they worked inside, and the evidence they can show for both. Every applicant is measured against the same scorecard, in the same way, on the day they apply.

Reading applications as they land

Proof beats a polished CV.

You describe the Product Management role and what success looks like in it, and Mira AI ranks each applicant with the reasoning written out in sentences you can read and disagree with. The people who rise are the ones whose work backs up the claim. A first read, never the final word.

  • Weighs work someone actually shipped above the tools listed on a CV
  • Every ranking carries the why, including the near-misses
  • Reads for judgement and communication alongside technical depth
  • Reorders the shortlist as new Product Management applicants arrive

Product Management roles

Start from where decisions get stuck.

Product roles grouped by the bottleneck you are feeling rather than by title. A remit not shown here can still be opened and scored the same way.

Engineers are shipping features nobody asked for

You want somebody who talks to users weekly, brings evidence into the room, and is comfortable telling a founder that the idea can wait. Discovery is the skill here, not delivery.

  • Product Managers
  • Senior Product Managers
  • Growth Product Managers
  • Product Researchers

Your product is an API or a platform

Technical product management is its own hire. The audience is developers, the roadmap is versioning and reliability, and the person needs enough depth to argue with staff engineers on the merits.

  • Technical Product Managers
  • Platform Product Managers
  • API Product Managers
  • Developer Experience Leads

The backlog has grown into a graveyard

This is product ownership: refining, sizing, writing acceptance criteria and keeping a sprint honest. A capable product owner clears a quarter of noise in weeks.

  • Product Owners
  • Business Product Owners
  • Backlog Owners
  • Jira Administrators

Three teams keep waiting on each other

Delivery and programme work, where the value is in surfacing dependencies early and keeping the reporting truthful. Agile coaching helps when the way of working itself is the problem.

  • Delivery Managers
  • Programme Managers
  • Scrum Masters
  • Agile Coaches
Seniority

Saying no gets easier with practice.

Naming the decisions you want owned filters far harder than naming a title in the advert.

Associate PM

0 to 2 years

Writes tickets, runs the release checklist and keeps documentation current. The roadmap and the priority calls still belong to somebody else.

Product Manager

3 to 5 years

Owns a feature area end to end: talks to users, sets the sequence, and defends it with numbers. The deepest and most competitive band in India.

Senior PM

6 to 9 years

Owns a full surface and its commercial outcome, and is trusted to cut scope without asking permission. Notice periods of 60 to 90 days are normal here.

Group PM / Head of Product

10 years and up

Owns the portfolio, the pricing conversation and the people managing it. A small pool, and the band where equity usually enters the discussion.

Which product title you need

Product manager, product owner or scrum master.

These three titles are used interchangeably in job adverts and mean three different jobs in practice. Hiring the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake on this page.

Role What they own Day to day Hire when
Product Manager Decides what gets built and why, and owns the outcome Discovery, sequencing, pricing, launch You need somebody accountable for the result, not the schedule
Technical Product Manager Same remit, aimed at developers and systems APIs, platform, reliability, versioning Your customers write code against what you ship
Product Owner Turns direction into work a sprint can absorb Backlog, refinement, acceptance criteria Direction is already clear and execution is the bottleneck
Scrum Master Protects the team and the flow of work Ceremonies, impediments, cycle time Delivery is erratic and nobody owns the process
Delivery / Programme Manager Coordinates several teams toward one date Dependencies, risk, status, budget Multiple teams have to land something together
Agile Coach Changes how teams work rather than what they build Coaching, ways of working, metrics The operating model itself is what keeps breaking
What to screen for

What a product brief has to make clear.

Choose the ones that matter for your team and every applicant is measured against them the moment they apply.

Who decides, and about what

The single line most product briefs leave out. Write down which calls are theirs, which are yours, and what they may change without asking.

Writing you would forward

Product work travels as documents. Ask for a real spec or a launch note they wrote, and read it the way an engineer on your team would.

Saying no with reasons

Strong product people decline requests and leave the requester convinced. Look for examples where something got cut and the relationship survived it.

Depth with engineers

Enough technical range to hold a design discussion honestly. For platform and API products this moves from useful to essential.

Evidence over opinion

How they know a thing is true: user interviews, funnel data, support tickets, a small test. The method matters more than the conclusion.

Timezone and rhythm

Product runs on conversation. Decide which meetings must be live, which can be written, and how many hours of overlap the role genuinely needs.

Pricing

Start with the tool. Add reach. Add people.

Every plan includes Mira. What changes is how far your roles travel and how much of the work you hand over.

Base

Free forever

For a team running its own hiring and tired of doing it in spreadsheets.

Bespoke

Contingent on a joined hire

Some roles need a person on the phone. Our recruiters take over sourcing and interview coordination, working the pipeline Mira has already built — so you're paying for judgment and conversations, not for admin.

Contingent fee of 10%, 12.5% or 15% of first-year salary, set by role seniority. Under a talent agreement, billed only on a joined hire.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What founders and heads of product ask before opening a product role in India.

How do I hire product managers in India?

Write the role around decisions rather than duties: which surface they own, what they may change without asking, and who they have to convince. Mira AI drafts the job description and a scorecard from that, the role reaches our candidate community, and each application is ranked as it lands. You read the shortlist, run your own interviews, and Wisemonk employs whoever you pick.

What is the difference between a product manager and a product owner?

A product manager decides what gets built and answers for the outcome. A product owner turns that direction into work a sprint can absorb, and answers for the backlog being clear and correctly sized. Many teams need both eventually, and almost every team that hires a product owner first discovers that nobody is setting the direction.

How much does it cost to hire a product manager in India?

Product pays above general engineering at the same seniority, and the senior end climbs steeply because the pool is genuinely small. Product owners and scrum masters sit lower, technical product managers carry a premium for the developer-facing depth, and heads of product are priced alongside engineering leadership. Open the role and we will sanity-check your band against live India payroll figures before anyone sees it.

Can a product manager in India work with a US or UK team?

Yes, and it is the most common setup we see. Overlap with the UK and Europe is comfortable through the afternoon, and most India-based product managers working with US teams keep a late shift for a few live hours. What matters more than the clock is deciding which conversations must happen live and which can move to writing. Product roles reward written decision records more than most, so teams that adopt them lose very little to distance.

Should I hire a scrum master or a product owner?

Look at what is actually failing. If the team ships steadily but builds the wrong things, or the backlog has become a graveyard, that is product ownership. If the work is right but delivery is erratic, standups run long and blockers sit for days, that is a scrum master. Hiring a scrum master to fix an unclear roadmap is a common disappointment for both sides.

Do I need a technical product manager?

You need one when your customer is a developer. If people integrate with your API, build on your platform, or judge you on reliability and versioning, the product decisions are technical decisions and a non-technical manager will be routed around within a month. For a consumer or internal product, general product skill with reasonable technical literacy is usually the better hire.

Do certifications like CSPO, CSM and SAFe matter?

They are useful for sorting a large pile of applications and weak as a predictor on their own. A CSPO or CSM tells you somebody sat a short course, and SAFe tells you they have worked inside a large organisation that runs it. None of them show whether a person can cut scope in a room full of stakeholders. Treat them as a filter of last resort and weigh shipped products far higher.

Do I need an entity in India to employ a product manager?

No. Wisemonk becomes the legal employer on paper, holds the contract, and runs monthly payroll with provident fund, gratuity, ESI and tax withholding handled. The product manager takes direction from your team and works to your roadmap. Where you already have an Indian entity, the hire can sit on that instead.

What does senior mean for a product manager in India?

Roughly six to nine years, owning a full surface and the commercial result attached to it rather than a feature queue. The practical test is whether they can cut scope without escalating and explain the cut convincingly afterwards. Notice periods at this level run 60 to 90 days, so start the search earlier than feels necessary.

Can a product manager in India talk to my customers?

Yes, and the good ones will insist on it. Customer conversations are where the evidence comes from, so a product manager kept away from users is being asked to guess. Practical points to settle early: who introduces them, whether calls are recorded, and how findings get written up so the rest of your team can read them without attending.

Find your next product manager in India.

Say who owns the roadmap and which product they will ship. Mira AI writes the scorecard, ranks every applicant, and Wisemonk takes care of the employment.
