How does an India-only EOR like Wisemonk differ from a global EOR (Deel, Remote, Rippling, G-P)?
Global EORs cover 150+ countries through a mix of owned entities and local partners; India is one tile in a long matrix. Wisemonk is India-only, with our own legal entity, our own India HRBP, and our own payroll team in Bengaluru.
How do cross-border payroll, FX, and invoicing actually work each month?
You receive one invoice from Wisemonk per pay cycle in your home currency (USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, CHF, SEK). Your AP processes it like any other vendor invoice. On our side, we convert to INR at mid-market rate locked at invoice issue, run Indian payroll, withhold PF, ESI, PT, and TDS, and remit net pay to the employee’s Indian bank account on the same day each month.
Will employing through Wisemonk create a permanent establishment (PE) in India for our home-country entity?
No. Wisemonk India Pvt. Ltd. is the legal employer. Your home-country entity has no fixed place of business in India, no dependent agent, no construction project. The four PE tests in every Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement we operate under are not met.
How do you handle data protection when our team in India accesses systems in our home country?
We work with your DPO and counsel to put the right cross-border safeguards in place at onboarding — Standard Contractual Clauses, a DPA, and a Transfer Impact Assessment template. The Indian employee accesses your systems under documented safeguards, not ad-hoc emails.
What happens when we want to scale from one Indian employee to a full team?
Same MSA, same contract, same SLA. You send the next candidate, we onboard them in 2 to 7 business days, and they appear on the same monthly invoice. We handle each new joiner’s contract, statutory enrolments, payroll, benefits, equipment, and equity admin.
Can we move from Wisemonk EOR to our own India entity later, and what does that handover look like?
Yes. Most customers eventually do this once their India team passes 25 to 30 employees.
