From a screen nobody likes to a designer who owns it.
Four steps, from describing the surface to a signed contract. Listing the role and reviewing portfolios are free on the Base plan.
-
01 Post
Post a role
- Which surface, which users, and whether you need research or execution first
- Mira AI turns it into a scorecard about craft and evidence rather than tool logos
- Design salary band checked against live payroll data before the role opens
-
02 Screen
Screen with AI
- Ranked on the products a designer shipped and the reasoning behind the choices
- Every position in the order comes with the reasoning written out
- Referrals and agency submissions land in the same ranked list
-
03 Interview
Run interviews
- Portfolio links, case studies and Figma files attached to the profile
- Book a portfolio review or a paid design exercise in a click
- Panel notes, recordings and scores stay attached to the role
-
04 Decide
Decide together
- Wisemonk signs the employment contract as legal employer in India
- Payroll, provident fund, gratuity and tax withholding run every month
- Laptops, Figma seats and access sorted before their first critique
It reads the work, not the CV.
Mira AI reads every UI & UX Design application through the work that actually shipped: what the person owned, the constraints they worked inside, and the evidence they can show for both. Every applicant is measured against the same scorecard, in the same way, on the day they apply.
Proof beats a polished CV.
You describe the UI & UX Design role and what success looks like in it, and Mira AI ranks each applicant with the reasoning written out in sentences you can read and disagree with. The people who rise are the ones whose work backs up the claim. A first read, never the final word.
- Weighs work someone actually shipped above the tools listed on a CV
- Every ranking carries the why, including the near-misses
- Reads for judgement and communication alongside technical depth
- Reorders the shortlist as new UI & UX Design applicants arrive
Start from the screen that needs work.
Design roles grouped by the surface in front of you rather than by title. Anything outside these four can still be opened and ranked on the same scorecard.
Your product works but feels like a spreadsheet
Engineers built the screens and it shows. A product designer takes a surface end to end, decides what belongs on it, and gives your team something worth building rather than a picture to copy.

- UI Designers
- Visual Designers
- Mobile Product Designers
People drop out halfway through your signup
That is a journey problem, not a colour problem. UX work means mapping where attention goes, testing the flow with real people, and cutting the steps that exist only because somebody built them years ago.
- UX Designers
- Product Designers
- UX Researchers
- Interaction Designers
Your marketing site has not changed since launch
Web design is its own craft, closer to editorial and conversion than to product. Look for someone comfortable in Webflow or working directly with your front-end team on a page that has a number attached to it.

- Webflow Designers
- Landing Page Designers
- Visual Designers
Every screen in your product looks slightly different
Design systems work. Tokens, components, naming and the documentation that makes the rest of the team use them. It repays itself fastest when several people are designing and building the same product.
- Design Systems Designers
- UI Designers
- Design Technologists
- UX Writers
Taste is quick. Judgement takes longer.
Naming the surface and the decisions you want owned filters far harder than naming a tool in the advert.
Junior Designer
0 to 2 years
Executes screens from a defined direction and keeps the file tidy. Strong visual instincts are common at this level; knowing what to design is not yet.
Designer
3 to 5 years
Takes a feature from problem to shipped interface and can defend the layout with something other than taste. The largest pool in India by a wide margin.
Senior Designer
6 to 9 years
Owns a product area, works out what is worth designing before opening Figma, and raises the standard of everyone reviewing alongside them. Notice runs 60 to 90 days.
Lead / Design Manager
10 years and up
Sets the bar across products, runs critique that people leave wiser, and argues design priorities with engineering and product leadership. A small and expensive pool.
Product designer, UI designer or UX designer.
Most adverts use all three words at once and end up describing a person who does not exist. Picking the one that matches your actual gap is what widens the pool and shortens the search.
| Role | What you get | Where they go deep | Hire when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product Designer | A working product surface, from problem to handoff | Broad: research, flows, interface, prototypes | You want one person accountable for a whole surface |
| UI Designer | Screens, states, layout and a clean handoff | Deep on craft, lighter on research | Direction is set and the execution needs raising |
| UX Designer | Journeys, flows and information architecture | Deep on structure, lighter on visual polish | People get lost before they get to the pretty part |
| UX Researcher | Evidence about what users actually do | Interviews, testing, surveys, synthesis | Your team argues about users from memory |
| Web Designer | Marketing pages that convert | Layout, typography, Webflow, landing pages | The site is the thing that needs to work harder |
| Design Systems Designer | Components, tokens and the docs behind them | Systems thinking, close to front-end | Several people design the same product differently |
What a design brief has to spell out.
Choose the ones that matter for your product and every applicant is measured against them the moment they apply.
The surface they will own
Whole product, one feature, the marketing site, or the system underneath. This one line changes which half of the applicant pool is right for you.
Shipped work over concepts
Redesign exercises are easy to make beautiful because nothing constrains them. Ask which screens are live today and what changed after they launched.
Reasoning you can follow
A portfolio walkthrough should explain choices, not narrate frames. The designers worth hiring will tell you what they got wrong on the way.
How they work with engineers
Handoff quality decides whether the design survives the build. Look for people who ask about component states before they ask about brand colours.
Evidence habits
Whether they have watched a real person use the thing they made. Even a little research experience changes how someone argues in a review.
Critique and timezone
Design improves in conversation. Decide which reviews must be live, and whether async video walkthroughs will carry the rest of the week.
Start with the tool. Add reach. Add people.
Every plan includes Mira. What changes is how far your roles travel and how much of the work you hand over.

Frequently asked questions
What founders and design leads ask before opening a design role in India.
How do I hire UI/UX designers in India?
Start by naming the surface rather than the software: which product, which users, and whether the gap is research, structure or execution. Mira AI writes the job description and a scorecard from that, the role reaches our candidate community, and every portfolio is ranked as it arrives. You run the walkthroughs yourself and Wisemonk employs whoever you pick.
What is the difference between a UI designer and a UX designer?
A UI designer is responsible for what the screen looks like and how each state behaves. A UX designer is responsible for the path someone takes through the product and whether it makes sense. A product designer covers both at once, which is why most teams under fifty people should hire that title instead of trying to split the work in two.
How much does it cost to hire a designer in India?
Design sits below engineering at equivalent seniority in India, and product designers with shipped consumer or SaaS work command the top of the range. UI-only and web design roles price lower, UX research is narrower and costs more than its volume suggests, and design leads are priced against engineering leadership. Open a role and we will check your band against live India payroll figures before it goes out.
Can a designer in India work with a US or UK product team?
Yes, and design has adapted to distance better than most functions because the work lives in Figma where everybody can see it. Two habits make it work: recorded walkthroughs so critique does not require everybody awake at once, and comments left directly on frames rather than opinions delivered in a meeting nobody wrote down. A few hours of overlap covers the live conversations that genuinely need to be live.
Should I hire a product designer or a web designer?
Ask what the thing you need improved actually is. A product designer works on the software people log into and thinks in flows, states and edge cases. A web designer works on the pages people land on and thinks in attention, message and conversion. They are different crafts with different portfolios, and hiring one for the other job disappoints everybody involved.
How do I judge a design portfolio properly?
Look for live products before you look for beautiful frames. Ask which screens are in use today, what the constraint was, and what changed after launch. Then ask about a decision that turned out wrong, because a designer who cannot name one has either not shipped much or is not paying attention. Concept work tells you about taste; shipped work tells you about judgement.
Do I need a UX researcher, or can designers do research?
Most designers can run usability tests and a handful of interviews, and for a small team that is usually enough. A dedicated researcher earns their place when decisions are expensive, the user group is hard to reach, or your team keeps arguing about users from memory. Hiring one before there is a decision waiting on evidence tends to produce reports nobody acts on.
Do I need an entity in India to employ a designer?
No. Wisemonk is the legal employer of record, holds the contract, and runs monthly payroll with provident fund, gratuity, ESI and tax withholding taken care of. The designer joins your critiques and works to your roadmap. Teams with an Indian entity already can place the hire there instead.
Who owns the design files and the copyright?
You do. Every contract Wisemonk writes assigns intellectual property in the work to your company, covering design files, source assets and anything produced during employment. Worth handling practically as well as legally: keep the Figma organisation and asset library on your own account from day one rather than on a personal seat.
What does senior mean for a designer in India?
Roughly six to nine years, and the marker is deciding what deserves designing before any file is opened. A senior designer pushes back on a feature request with a better question, raises the standard of the people reviewing alongside them, and can hold their position in a room with engineering and product. Notice periods of 60 to 90 days are normal at this level.
