TL;DR

- Rippling and ADP are not the same product line. Rippling sells software you administer, ADP sells a managed service, and the global product is ADP Celergo, not Workforce Now.
- Neither publishes a usable rate. Rippling's pricing page returns a custom quote and no ADP global payroll tier publishes a list price, so you compare two quotes rather than two rate cards.
- If India is part of the footprint, Wisemonk runs it on its own Indian entities, with EOR from $99 per employee per month, PEO from $49, and managed payroll on a custom quote.
- Rippling's $8 per employee per month platform price is software only, not an EOR or full payroll rate, so do not read it as the cost of employing someone.
- Before you sign either contract, pin down the legal employer in each country, who pays for a wrong filing, the real go live date, and what leaving costs.

Rippling vs ADP: which one should actually run your payroll once your team sits in more than one country?

ADP has processed payroll since 1949, and Rippling folds HR, IT and payroll into one platform you run yourself. Neither publishes a rate you can act on, so every comparison starts from a custom quote.

This is for a US or global company weighing the two for payroll across several countries, and it is especially useful if India is one of those markets.

We compare their service models, what each one offers, what they cost, how far their coverage really reaches, when to choose which, how to switch, and where an India specialist fits.

## What is the difference between Rippling and ADP for global payroll?

The short answer: Rippling sells software you administer, and ADP sells a service that runs payroll for you.

Rippling is one platform running HR, IT and payroll on a single employee record. ADP is a payroll and HR services company founded in 1949, and its global product coordinates in country providers under one contract.

That one difference decides most of the rest. With Rippling you configure and run payroll yourself. With ADP you hand a calendar to a service team that owns in country execution.

There is a category question underneath it too, and the [difference between an HRIS and an HRMS](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/hris-vs-hrms) decides how much of your stack one contract replaces.

Here is how the two compare feature by feature, with Wisemonk in the third column for the India view:

Rippling, ADP and Wisemonk compared on service model, coverage and support, as of October 2026

| Feature | Rippling | ADP | Wisemonk |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| What it is | One platform for HR, IT and payroll, with its own EOR service | A product family. ADP Global Payroll, branded Celergo, is the multi country one | An India native EOR and payroll provider |
| Service model | Software you administer | Managed service | Managed service with a dedicated HR business partner |
| US payroll | Yes, in platform | Yes, through RUN and Workforce Now | No |
| Global payroll | Yes, in platform | Yes, through Celergo and GlobalView | India only |
| Employer of Record | Yes, its own EOR service | No. TotalSource is a domestic US PEO, not an EOR | Yes, on our own Indian entities |
| Contractor engagement | Yes, price not published | Not published | Contractor of Record at 6% per contractor payment, with no FX markup |
| Benefits administration | Yes | Yes | Yes, including India group health cover |
| IT and device management | Yes, and it is the clearest thing Rippling does that ADP does not | No | Laptop procurement and shipping inside India, as an EOR add on |
| Leave and attendance | Yes | Yes | Administered as part of EOR |
| Country coverage | No consolidated EOR country list published | ADP's own marketing describes Celergo as more than 140 countries | India, across every state |
| Minimum term | Not published | Not published | No minimum contract duration and no minimum headcount |
| Support model | In app and ticket based | Named service team owning in country execution | A dedicated HR business partner |
| Best fit segment | Small to mid market teams that want one system | Mid market to enterprise with many countries and filing complexity | Any size, where India is a real part of the footprint |

There is also a model choice sitting behind the vendor choice, and [choosing between payroll and an EOR model](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/eor-vs-payroll) is worth settling before you take a single demo.

## What do Rippling and ADP each offer?

Before the price talk, it helps to see what each company is actually selling.

### Rippling

Rippling runs HR, IT and payroll on one employee record, so a new hire's laptop, app access, benefits and pay all hang off the same object.

It also sells its own employer of record service for hiring where you have no entity, priced on a custom quote like the rest of the platform.

Because one contract covers both halves of the record, it helps to be clear on [where payroll ends and HR begins](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/payroll-vs-hr) before you scope the modules.

**Best for:** small to mid market teams that want one system and are happy to administer it themselves.

### ADP

ADP has been processing payroll since 1949 and sells across the full size range, from very small US employers up to global enterprises.

The product names matter more than usual here.

ADP Workforce Now and ADP RUN are largely domestic US HR and payroll platforms, and ADP TotalSource is a domestic US PEO built on co employment across the 50 states.

The one that competes for a multi country payroll run is ADP Global Payroll, branded ADP Celergo, with ADP GlobalView Payroll above it for larger enterprises running SAP.

One company can run Celergo and GlobalView at once for different population segments. Celergo is sold as a managed service, so an ADP team owns in country execution.

**Best for:** mid market to enterprise buyers with several countries, real filing complexity and a preference for someone else doing the work.

If your shortlist is wider than these two, our roundup of [ADP alternatives](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/top-10-adp-competitors-alternatives) covers the rest of the field.

And if you are weighing ADP global payroll against a modern platform instead, read [Deel vs ADP](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/deel-vs-adp-global-payroll-services-comparison) next.

Cost is where both stories get thinner.

## What do Rippling and ADP cost?

Neither vendor publishes a rate you can act on. Rippling's pricing page asks what services you need and returns a custom quote for its EOR, and no ADP global product publishes a list price either.

You are comparing two quotes, not two rate cards.

Rippling does list a platform price from $8 per employee per month, but that is the software subscription, not an EOR or a full payroll rate, so do not read it as the cost of employing someone through Rippling.

For the India line specifically, Wisemonk publishes its rates.

EOR starts from $99 per employee per month, PEO from $49 per employee per month if you already hold an Indian entity, and managed payroll is on a custom quote, all as of October 2026.

Here is how the published pricing lines up:

Rippling, ADP and Wisemonk published pricing, as of October 2026

| Pricing item | Rippling | ADP | Wisemonk |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Employer of Record rate | Custom quote, EOR rate not published | Custom quote | From $99 per employee per month |
| Platform or software subscription | From $8 per employee per month, not an EOR or full payroll rate | Quote only across RUN, Workforce Now and Global Payroll | PEO from $49 per employee per month if you hold an Indian entity |
| Managed payroll | Quote only | Celergo and GlobalView, quote only | Custom quote |
| Contractor payments | Not published | Not published | Contractor of Record at 6% per payment, no FX markup |
| Minimum term and headcount | Not published | Not published | No minimum term and no minimum headcount |

Since the quote is the product, here are the six line items to demand in writing before you sign either contract:

- **Per employee fee:** the monthly rate per active employee, quoted country by country rather than as a blended average.
- **Per country surcharges:** extra charges for entity setup, in country partner fees, or a minimum headcount per country.
- **FX handling:** the exchange rate used, the margin applied on top of it, and who absorbs a mid month move.
- **Implementation cost:** whether onboarding is a one time fee, bundled into the rate, or billed hourly as professional services.
- **Minimum term:** the contract length, the auto renewal clause, and the notice period needed to avoid it.
- **Offboarding cost:** what it costs to remove one country or the whole contract, and who files the final returns.

The shape of a global people cost rarely matches the headline, so [a full cost breakdown](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/eor-pricing-guide-cost-breakdown) is worth reading before you set the budget.

One cost sits outside both quotes entirely: the internal payroll time you keep, which is the real gap between [running payroll in house and outsourcing it](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/in-house-payroll-vs-outsourcing).

To put a real number on the India line, our [employee cost calculator](https://www.wisemonk.io/tools/employee-cost-calculator) shows the fully loaded monthly cost in a couple of minutes.

### Not sure which model your headcount actually needs?

We will map your current footprint against EOR, contractor and entity options and tell you where each one stops making sense.

[Talk to an Expert](https://www.wisemonk.io/contact) [Read our EOR FAQs](https://www.wisemonk.io/faqs)

Price settled as far as either vendor will settle it, coverage is the next claim that does not survive contact with a contract.

## How many countries do Rippling and ADP really cover?

Neither count is as clean as the marketing suggests. Rippling publishes no consolidated EOR country list, so there is no figure worth quoting.

ADP describes Celergo as covering more than 140 countries, which is its own claim rather than an audited list.

Ask Rippling for the current EOR country list on paper, then ask separately which of those countries it runs payroll in itself rather than through an in country partner.

What matters is whether the vendor owns the entity in your market or resells a partner's, and the [owned entity versus aggregator question](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/owned-entity-vs-aggregator-eor) changes what you are buying.

Put the same three questions to both vendors, and ask for the answers market by market:

- **Own entity or partner:** which of my markets do you serve on your own entity, and which run through a third party?
- **Named legal employer:** which company appears on the employment contract in each country?
- **Payroll engine or pass through:** do you calculate payroll yourself in that market, or forward it to a local provider?

## When should you choose ADP?

Choose ADP when you want a managed service rather than software to administer, when you run payroll across many countries with real filing complexity, and when finance and audit want a vendor they already recognize.

It has processed payroll since 1949, which is often what settles a boardroom.

Consider ADP if any of these describe you:

- **You want the work done for you:** Celergo is a managed payroll service, so an ADP team owns in country execution.
- **You need US co employment:** TotalSource is a domestic US PEO, so [TriNet competitors](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/trinet-competitors) is the comparison you actually want.

If your real shortlist is US payroll peers rather than global platforms, [Paylocity vs ADP](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/paylocity-vs-adp-payroll-feature-comparison) is closer to your decision.

Rippling's case runs the other way.

## When should you choose Rippling?

Choose Rippling when you want HR, IT and payroll on one employee record, when your headcount sits in the small to mid market band, and when you would rather administer the system than brief a service team.

Its own EOR runs on a custom quote, the same as the rest of the platform.

Consider Rippling if any of these sound like you:

- **You want one record, not five systems:** laptops, app access, benefits and payroll all hang off the same employee object.
- **You want HR, IT and device management in one system:** onboarding a hire can trigger payroll, benefits, a laptop and app access in a single workflow. That consolidation is the actual product, and it is deeper than anything ADP offers.

It is worth reading [Papaya Global vs Rippling](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/papaya-global-vs-rippling) too, since specialists tend to publish more country detail than platform vendors do.

Before you commit, scan the wider set of [Rippling alternatives](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/top-10-rippling-alternatives-and-competitors) as well.

And where the service models finally match, [Deel vs Rippling](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/deel-vs-rippling) is a much closer contest.

For a team under 30 people the contest changes again, which is why [Rippling vs Gusto](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/rippling-vs-gusto-comparison) is often the more useful read.

Switching between the two, or onto either from a legacy system, is its own project.

## How do you switch from ADP to Rippling?

Check three things first: what payroll data actually transfers, whether you can wait for a year boundary, and who files the final returns for the months already run on ADP.

Neither publishes a migration commitment, so those answers have to come from your contract.

Employee records, pay rates and bank details move without much drama. Payroll history and year to date figures are where migrations get expensive.

This is why timing matters more than most switch plans admit:

- **Year boundary moves are cleaner:** starting on the first day of a tax year leaves no year to date balances to carry across.
- **Parallel runs are the only real test:** run one cycle in both systems and compare gross, net, tax and contributions line by line.

The mechanics are much the same whoever you are leaving, and our guide on [how to switch EOR providers](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/how-to-switch-eor-providers) walks through the sequence in order.

Whether you are moving or buying for the first time, the contract carries the rest of the risk.

## What should you check before signing either contract?

Five things decide whether a global payroll contract works: which entity employs each worker, who pays for a wrong filing, how long implementation really takes, where payroll data lands, and what leaving costs.

None of the five appears on a rate card.

From our experience helping companies build teams in India, each of these turns into the expensive surprise at the second year renewal.

Here are those five checks, ordered by what they cost when they go wrong:

1. **The legal employer in each market:** somebody employs the worker in every country, either the vendor you signed with or a partner it contracts. Ask for the named entity per market, since that also decides [whether you are buying a PEO or an EOR](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/peo-vs-eor).
2. **Who pays for a wrong filing:** a late filing produces a penalty, and the indemnity decides who carries it. Read it with the liability cap, and apply the [wider vendor selection criteria](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/eor-vendor-selection) while you are in the paperwork.
3. **The real implementation timeline:** neither vendor publishes one, so the only date you get is the one in your statement of work. Country registration, bank setup and data migration are the three that slip.
4. **Where payroll data lands:** payroll that does not reach your general ledger, HR system and identity provider creates manual reconciliation every cycle. Ask for the connector and who fixes it.
5. **What leaving costs:** exit terms get written when nobody is thinking about leaving, which is why they deserve a second read. Ask about notice periods, per country offboarding fees and who holds records afterwards.

If India is one of the markets in those answers, there is a shorter route.

## How can Wisemonk help you run payroll in India?

[Wisemonk](https://www.wisemonk.io/) is an India specialist [employer of record](https://www.wisemonk.io/eor) that helps global companies hire, pay and manage talent in India without setting up a local entity.

We look after [India payroll](https://www.wisemonk.io/payroll-in-india) and compliance for more than 300 global clients, covering over 2,000 employees on payroll and $20M+ in annual payroll.

We hold 4.8 out of 5 on G2, and EOR starts from $99 per employee per month.

Here's how we help:

- [**Employer of Record (EOR):**](https://www.wisemonk.io/eor) become the legal employer in India from $99 per employee per month, so you can hire without an entity of your own. We also source and [ship laptops](https://www.wisemonk.io/ship-laptops-to-india) to India employees as an EOR add on.
- [**Contractor of Record:**](https://www.wisemonk.io/contractor-of-record) compliant contractor agreements, IP assignment, classification review, TDS and GST, and payouts at 6% per contractor payment.
- [**PEO (HR services):**](https://www.wisemonk.io/peo-services-in-india) for companies that already hold an Indian entity, we run payroll, PF, ESIC, professional tax, TDS filings, benefits, onboarding and offboarding under your registrations, from $49 per employee per month.

If your global rollout includes India, you can keep your platform or service for the rest of the world and hand the India half to a team that owns the local entities, statutory filings and benefits.

When India headcount grows, we also help you [move from an EOR to your own legal entity](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/transition-from-eor-to-legal-entity), and our [EOR versus entity calculator](https://www.wisemonk.io/tools/eor-vs-entity-calculator) shows when that switch starts to pay off.

Here is how one US client describes working with us:

> Red Hill Technology Solutions has run its India engineering team on Wisemonk for the past year and a half. They handle payroll and benefits end to end, so I can offer my employees good health insurance without having to master the idiosyncrasies of Indian benefits myself. Payroll cutoff reminders arrive every month before I need them, and off-cycle bonus runs have never been a problem. Even equipment purchasing, a real headache for a US company shipping to Indian addresses, is as simple as telling them what I need. Exchange rates are fair and the pricing is transparent. Deepika Elumalai, our point of contact, ties it all together. Whatever comes up, she pulls in the right people and sees it through. For any US company building a team in India, Wisemonk is an easy recommendation. **- Tak Yamamoto, President at Red Hill Technology Solutions, Inc.**

## Frequently asked questions

**How do Rippling, ADP and Paychex compare for a multi location retail team?**

Retail turns on scheduling, hourly rules and per location tax registrations. Rippling and ADP both handle that in the US, and the bureaus compete hard on it, which is why our [Paychex competitors](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/paychex-competitors) roundup is the closer read. Neither publishes retail pricing, so ask for a per location quote.

**Which company actually signs the employment contract in each country?**

It depends on the market and neither vendor publishes the list. Under an EOR the named legal employer may be the vendor's own entity or a local partner it contracts. Ask for the entity name per country, in writing, before you sign anything.

**Which big companies use Rippling?**

Rippling does not publish an auditable customer list on its own site, and the logo walls in comparison posts are undated and copied from each other. Ask instead for two references that match your countries, your headcount band and the exact modules you are buying.

**Is ADP TotalSource relevant if I am hiring outside the US?**

No. TotalSource is a domestic US PEO built on co employment across the 50 states, so it does not cover hiring abroad. For countries outside the US the relevant ADP product is ADP Global Payroll, branded Celergo, or GlobalView at enterprise scale.

**How long does implementation take with each vendor?**

Neither publishes a timeline. ADP usually runs a scoped project with a named consultant, while Rippling is closer to self serve configuration. Ask for a contractual go live date and who owns the parallel payroll run, because that is what actually sets the date.

**Can Rippling or ADP act as my employer of record?**

Rippling sells its own EOR service. ADP's global products are payroll services rather than employment, and TotalSource is a US PEO. If you are still weighing [employer of record versus your own entity](https://www.wisemonk.io/blogs/employer-of-record-vs-own-entity), settle that first, then ask for country level EOR terms in writing.

**Can I keep one platform for HR and use a separate provider for payroll in one country?**

Yes, and plenty of teams do it for one hard market. You take on a data feed and a second vendor relationship in exchange for local depth. Confirm the connector, the file format and the reconciliation owner before you split the stack.
